This week we talked more about the Holocaust and how sleep affects us. Other than that, we are also still working on our SLE'S, i'm not that nervous, but I am kinda nervous. We listened to this talk,by Father Mike on how not getting enough hours of sleep is bad for you. You should try to get 7-10 hours of sleep each day. There were so many important things mentioned. In my opinion one of the most important things that he mentioned were that we do not function correctly and do not work/think right when we are tired. I agree. After watching this video, my goal is to get to bed between 9:30 -10pm. If I sometimes can get in earlier, than I will. A thing that I do right when I get in bed is Pray. Night. We are almost done with the book. We got to the part where Elie's dad dies. I was affected by this. I knew before reading this book that his dad was going to die by people telling me. In the book there have been lots of sad and upsetting moments, but for sure this was probably or not the worst. SLE's. They keep getting closer. Whether we like it or not it is happening. I have been getting ahead, some what. I am presenting May 31 in the morning. I am the third one. I am for the most part calm, but there are some nerves that are kicking in. I am kinda happy that I'm third for a couple of reasons. 1. I can get it over with. 2. I might be graded a little bit easier, which might happen but you never know. A fun activity that is approaching is... CARNIVAL yay. I can't wait.

Night/SLE's/This Week
In ELA class we started to read a book called Night by Elie Wiesel. The book Night is about the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel, is a survivor of the Holocaust, and in Night he is telling his story of his life during the Holocaust. As we started to the read the book, I already felt so bad for what they had to go through. The Holocaust was a tough time, and many people died, or in particular suffer, they all did suffer. We did get through most of the chapter, but we still have a few pages left. Another big thing that is happening in ELA class is we are working on our SLE's. I finally have a topic. My topic is Finding role models who inspire us. I think that this is a good topic. I hope my topic will hopefully inspire people that people should choose good role models. We loom up to our role models, and we want to be like them, which I guess is ok, but we need to make sure that they are able to inspire us in a way that will help us in the future. It is very important. On April 20,2016, it was one of the best days of my life. I bought tickets to meet my favorite youtubers the Dolan Twins. I'm so exited. Im going to meet them on July 9,2016. I can't wait. Im really exited. Ive always wanted to meet them, and i'm happy that I will be able to meet them. I'm going with my mom. That was the highlight of my week. Another good thing that happened this week is that my grades started to improve. I'm extremely happy. This week went by fast, and graduation is approaching. I'm so exited. Word Count:302 Starting to Learn about the Holocaust/This Week
Soon in ELA, we are going to start reading a book called "Night" By Elie Wiesel. Night is about the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel, was a survivor of this vile event. In class, we watched a video on another Holocaust survivor. Her name was Gerda Weissmann. The video made me want to cry. It was very touching. Gerda and her family loved in Poland. When the German started to invade Poland, Gerda and her family had to live in the basement. Gerda's older brother Artur joined the war and was sent away. In the movie, Gerda said something like "When my brother left, my mom didn't make his bed." That just showed that they missed. Sadly, her family never heard anything on how he was. When Gerda and her mother were taken away, they were separated at the camps. Life was hard for Gerda and all the others. Gerda made friends. One of her friends name was Suzzy. Suzzy then died on a trip. Watching this video made me realize a lot of different things. This week was a very stressful and tiring week. It went by fast, but it did seem slow at some point. We didn't have a ton of assignments, which is a good thing, We are now starting to prepare for these presentations called SLE's I'm nervous, but it is a requirement and I will have to do it no matter what. We are now gettig closer and closer to graduation, I'm going to my dream high school, and new doors are being opened. We still have time, but before you know it, our tassel won't be on the right side anymore, it will be on the left side. I honestly can not wait to graduate and start a new adventure in high school. Word Count:308 Coming back from spring break/this week
This week we came back from spring break. On the last Saturday of spring break, I attended my english teacher wedding ceremony, it was beautiful. Other than that, I didn't want to come back to school, but I had to. I also had to get my three dresses for graduation and my shoes which I thankfully found. I was ready for the first day back, but I would have to get used to it again. I did get the hang of it, but i'm going to sleep late which is not good. Im not used to waking up early, but as the days go, i adjust, slowly but its happening. As well from coming back from spring break, this week was a chill but stressful week. We now have to start focusing on these presentations that the 8th graders do at the end called SLE's, which stand for Student Learning Expectations. I am nervous, but I will try my hardest and work in advance, not on the night before the presentations. We came back to practice sports again. At school I am currently playing softball, which I enjoy. At softball, everything goes by fast, but most of the time where just having fun. There are still a lot of things to get used to like picking up from where we left off in math, which is a slight problem considering I don't fully under stand the concept but I somewhat understand it. Now we need to focus as the school year is coming to an end and we're about to graduate. I'm so exited to graduate. A fun thing we did in ELA class is start to watch the movie To Kill A Mocking Bird. These 10 -11 weeks we have left are gonna go by quick. word count:307 This week we read chapters four and five in this book about St.John Eudes."However the Lord had plans for him." (P.14) Chapter four and five was about John wanting plans and wanting people and everyone be kind and peace. On page fifteen, there was a picture of John with kids. He tried to "ease the sufferings of the victims, and for many, he was with them in the final moments of their life." (p.15) That Shows that John was loyal and was doing everything possible to help people. He was basically following the way of the Bible. On his way to go help the kids and victims, he went to talk to Berulle. These Chapters shows us that we need to be kind to people and loyal to people. John was a kind and loyal person and always wanting to do good deeds and he was a religious person in general and you could tell that he was trying to make God and Jesus happy which was a good thing. The reading passage was telling people that they should help everyone no matter what. Just because their a different skin color, or have different eye color or hair color that doesn't mean anything, You should just in general be nice to everyone. This week went by fast. As our homeroom had told us that the rest of the year will be like a blink of an eye, just it will go by fast. I am nervous for a lot of things like the SLE presentations and the parent gratitudes but the rest i'm just really happy. I'm also really happy to be attending my dream high school. I am exited for high school but there's a side of me that is a little nervous. This is what happened this week.

This week/presidents day This week went by fast as we didnt have school on Monday due to it being presidents day. On Monday, I literaly didnt do anything but just lay around and play on my iPad. Presidents' day is a day where we honor the U.S presidents. Here are some facts on Presidents day. Presidents day is the third Monday in February. Presidents' day is a federal holiday called George Washignton's birthday. Another fun fact is that George Washinghton was actually the first American citezen with a federal holiday. Presidents Day is a holiday however each state chooses how to celabrate it. Those are some facts on Presidents day. I was thankful that we didnt have school that day because I was able to sleep in and basiclly chill all day and eat food whenever I wanted to eat food. It was a very calm Presidents' day for me. This week we didnt do many things. It was like a chill week. On Saturday, February 20, I have an interview for highschool. We aslo had a social studies test, which wasnt that hard, and I feel like a got a good grade. I dont think a week has ever passed this fast before. To me the problem of not having school on Monday is then the days of the week get messed up for me and im sure for other people it does the same thing. For example, Moday felt like a sunday but then Tuesday, felt like a Monday. Suprisingly I actually adjusted pretty well and fast which was really good. One of my favorite things about this week was on Wednesday, it rained. I love rain, and I was very happy it rained. Overall, this week was a goos week, it was more like a smooth week. word count:307 Movie Making/this week
This week in class we learned about movie making in a way. For example we had to identify sounds and images we see while watching a short film. We watched a short film on "How to kill a mocking bird" by Harper Lee. Some of the sounds that I identified were, Humming, child laughing, clock ticking and peaceful music. What the clock ticking could possibly fore-shadow is time passing by. Some of the images repeated included, a box filled with things, crayons and a stop-watch. By some of the images that were included, I was able to tell that it was from an older time period. In the box, there were two dolls, you can tell those two dolls were old by how they were made, they were made out of wood. The intro part of to kill a mocking bird, started with suspense and then turned it to a happy mode. Movie making can be complicated at times, but it does always turn out in the end. It takes paitence, practice and determeination. While making a movie thoughts have to go in and you do have to think about others. Movies have chnaged in a dramatic way. This week I read an Advent prayer over the innercome. I was really nervous. The reason I had to read it was beacause since i'm in student council we read an advent prayer every morning for the rest of Advent. I'm very thankful that this was the only one I needed to read. Probably in the future I will have to read over the intercom, but I know I won't be as nerveous as I was this time hopefully. Practicing does make a difference. Around two days before, I started to practice what I needed to read do I wouldnt stutter. Word Count:306 The Pie
December 3,2015 This week in class we read an exerpt by Gary Soto. The story was featured in a story written by Soto called "A Summer Life". Soto is known from writing from expirence. So what that probably means, is some of the things he writes about he has probably gone through. Soto used a lot of personification througout the story. He used personification to describe things. What The Pie was about was a boy who was 6 and used to steal. As I mentioned before, Soto writes from expirence, I'm not sure if that boy that stole was him. The six year stole pie and then felt guilt. In paragraph two it said "But boredom made me sin." If he was bored, he could choose wisley and do the right thing, but stealing is far from worse espically on a six year old. At least he did fell guilt because he might not want to steal again. Normally, when people steal, they do repeatily. That is a problem because they're gonna keep doing something that isn't right. Towards the end of the story he became a bully and was mean to other kids. He knew he wasn't doing any good. He knew he was sinning, he could've tried to stop sinning or talk to someone or even ask for advice. What I thought was weird is that no one realized this. Where were his parents or grandparents? He felt guilt and sorrow and knew all of these things were sins. Did he even go to school? As we were reading this, many questions went through my head. Such as, Did he have parents? Was he an orphan? Was he bullied before? Was it summer vacation? Why was he bored when there are a million other things he could be doing? A theme for this is dont steal. word count:314 Blog #6
This week we read a short story by O'Henry called "A Retrieved Reformation." This story was about a prisoner named Jimmy Valentine. His number in prison was 9762. This short-story did use a lot of people using power of words. What this short-story was about was a prisoner, who robbed safes to get money. Will he change? Will he stop robbing? Maybe he will maybe he won't. Jimmy had a lot of strategies to get information, and had a bag filled with tools to break things open. One way how he might of gotten out of jail, is his friend, Mike Dolan, paying so Jimmy can get out of jail and rob again. I guess you can say that Mike is Jimmy's partner in crime, literally. Around one week after Jimmy was let free, he stole $800 and then $1,500 and he even stole $5,000. He's probably going back to jail is what I was thinking. Right when he was going to leave jail, one of the ofifcers said something like you can still change. Apparently, that made Jimmy realize that he could change and still has time. As he was in a city planning to rob another bank, he saw a girl who he fell in love with. Her name was, Annabel Adams. The problem was the bank Jimmy wanted to rob, belonged to Annabel's father. As everyone wants to make a good impression, Jimmy wanted to do the same thing. Jimmy stopted robbing and decided to give it up. Jimmy then changed him-self and became Mr.Spencer, as what people would know him as. As Jimmy did have a bad past he did decide to change. Even though he did things that can't be forgetten by him, he can put the aside. Jimmy did change. Word Count:304 The Alley Cats and the 50's
For celebrating the 50th anniversary of our school, other than just dressing up, an acapella band that sings 50's music came and sang for us. They are called the Alley Cats. The assembly was fun but at the same time, it was interesting to see how some people just listen or sing 50's music. The 50's would probably one of my favorite time periods, not only for the clothes thy wear, but for the living styles they had. During the assembly, they would explain to us about acapella music and how they all sort it out with their voices to sound good. The members of the Aley Cats were funny and goofy at times. The 50's seemed fun and interesting. One of my favorite things of the 50's was the diners. Even though there are diners to this day are similar to the ones back then, it still isnt the same. In my opinion, the best part of the 50's was the fashion. I really liked how women used to dress with those nice dresses and wore leather. The men's attire was nice too. I think the people who wore leather probably rode motercylcles. One thing I like knowing is when you go to certain resturants they have pictures of 50's people at a resturant and that gives you a slight glimpse of how they lived back then. As people sometimes think the 50's isn't intresting, it is actully very intresting. The ecomy was diffrent and living styles were diffrent. A lot of things have changed since the 50's. For example, a lot of the style of houses have changed, the fashion, a major change were cars, resturants and the music has also changed majorly. I love the 50's and the assembly was very fun and interesting. Word Count:306 |
